Eco-liner SilverNova

News
On December 2, 2021 , Silversea Cruises, a leader in the ultra-luxury cruise segment, announced the name of the first liner developed as part of the groundbreaking Evolution project. The revolutionary vessel, which will be completed by the summer of 2023, will be the first luxury hybrid cruise ship. It will save ports from harmful emissions, thereby placing Silversea at the forefront of sustainable cruises.
SilverNova, like all future Nova-class ships, is a striking demonstration of Silversea's efforts to offer travelers an ultra-luxurious experience without compromising on the unique destinations of the company's cruise lines. SilverNova will use liquefied natural gas as its main fuel. The new hybrid technology will also achieve an overall 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per double suite compared to the previous class (Muse class).

“Nova-class ships are an investment in unprecedented technological solutions. They reflect our commitment to preserving the planet's ecology without compromising on comfort or luxury, ”says Roberto Martinoli, President and CEO of Silversea Cruises. "SilverNova is Silversea and RoyalCaribbean Group's commitment to sustainability."

“Sustainability is the future of luxury travel, and SilverNova epitomizes Silversea's incredible luxury innovation,” added Barbara McKermann, Chief Commercial Officer. "Silversea is a leader in sustainable travel and now, with SilverNova, we go even further to meet the expectations of today's and future luxury travel travelers."

SilverNova is being built in Germany by MeyerWerft, one of the largest and most modern shipyards in the world. It is renowned for its cutting edge developments in clean and energy efficient technologies.

The eco-features of SilverNova and all future Nova class vessels include solutions such as an automatic microgasification system, where the disposal of onboard waste significantly reduces emissions from the combustion process, and the resulting gas can be used for heating. In addition, this class of ships is expected to exceed 25% of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) rating from the current requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Onshore power will allow the ship to shut off its main generators at ports of arrival and connect to an onshore power source, thereby reducing emissions to zero. Overall, the ship's innovative hydrodynamic design and innovative technologies will significantly reduce its environmental impact.

SilverNova will become one of the most spacious cruise ships in the world and will offer passengers an incredibly luxurious travel experience. Examples of this: the highest area per passenger, as well as a crew-to-guest ratio of 1: 1.3 - each suite will be assigned a personal butler, which guarantees an ultra-personalized service. The passenger capacity of the ship is 728 people and the displacement is 54.7 thousand tons.

The liner will join the Silversea fleet in the summer of 2023. Members of the Venice Society, the Silversea loyalty program, and travel agents will have access to pre-sale cruises on SilverNova as early as December 16, 2021. General sales start on January 6, 2022.
